We are all required to make decisions every day of our lives. Some are more important than others and ultimately every decision we make will have an influence on our life.
Have you noticed that some people appear to be better at making decisions than others? Why is this? Is it knowledge, confidence, or something inherent to our personality?
We are not taught how to think and therefore we are not taught how to make decisions. We rely on our instinct, but is this really the best way?
The opposite of decision making is procrastination - the art of putting decisions off until a later date. Procrastination comes from a lack of confidence and skill in decision making - hoping that someone else will make the decision or that circumstances will change on their own and therefore the decision is no longer required.
How good are you about making decisions?
In my reflection time every morning I wait for a word to come into my mind and this word becomes the subject of my daily blog. Today I experienced several words rolling around in my mind but one stood out and this word is care.
As I pondered on this subject I thought about the phrase: People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.
This is very true and one that everyone should take to heart. When I think about it from my own point of view I remember the people in my past who seemed to be more interested in showing how great they were, completing tasks for me rather than showing me what to do, "demanding" respect because they were the best, and not really caring about anyone but themselves.
I then thought about the people who took time to listen to me, to ask questions about how I was feeling, whether I understood something, and what they could do to help me. These people I did respect and trust. These were the people that I would do anything for - walk...
It is said that you will never know the character of a person until they have faced adversity, and I believe that.
When things are going well it is easy for us to be positive and happy but how we handle adversity is what defines us. It is true that most, if not all people, who succeed in life face adversity or a bad start.
Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for years before being freed to become the leader of South Africa.
Robert Burns, one of the greatest poets ever, was illiterate, grew up in poverty, and became a drunkard yet wrote some of the most beautiful poetry by clothing his thoughts in words.
I have faced my own share of adversity and, to be honest, I didn't always handle it well so therefore I got what I was looking for subconsciously. When you are ready to receive good things and your desire is strong enough, you will handle adversity differently. I know, because it has happened to me and it can for you too.
Have you ever caught yourself saying that you are "Waiting for the right opportunity to come along"?
What does that mean exactly, and how will you know when the "right" opportunity presents itself? Are you ready to accept it?
For many people I suspect that this is really a way of using the lack of a "right" opportunity as an excuse for not pushing themselves to achieve more. I believe that we need to make our own opportunities and by doing so we are more likely to take advantage and grab them.
It is true that the harder you work, the luckier you get. Let me clarify - this is not "luck", this is a result of hard work, desire, and persistence as you pursue your dream.
Don't look for excuses, take the bull by the horns and chase your future with an energy, passion, and desire that will not allow anything but success.
Self-Image is quite simply how you see yourself. It sounds simple doesn't it, so why do so many people have a low image of themselves?
I often find my self pondering this question and have a few theories.
One is that people inherently choose to live within their comfort zone. By this I mean that they don't like to take risks for fear of failing. When we fail it makes us feel inadequate. However, failure is merely a state of mind too. I prefer to describe a situation where something didn't go as planned as being a temporary setback, not a failure.
A temporary setback is something that we can learn from, regroup, re-strategize, and try again. By doing so we will overcome obstacles, defeat adversity, and grow into something better than we are today, increasing our self-image as a result.
Don't settle for existing in your comfort zone. Be intentional about increasing your self-image and become the best version of yourself, and always remember these words:

What defines the most successful people from the rest? One thing, they do not quit. When faced with something that doesn't work they see it as a temporary defeat whereas most people see failure.
Thomas Edison famously took 10,000 attempts before he created the incandescent light bulb.
Walt Disney face bankruptcy several times before creating the successful Walt Disney Company.
The Wright brothers crashed multiple times before they took flight.
While other people quit, these pioneers kept trying, learning from their mistakes, regrouping, and finding new ways to succeed - and they did!
If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
Remember these three words and use them in everything that you do. The quality and quantity of the service you render, backed by the spirit in which it is rendered will set you apart from everyone else.
This applies in all walks of life: you will get further in your employment if you are delivering a high quality of work, completing all of your scheduled tasks on time, and serving your customers, guest, clients, and fellow workers. The same applies in your personal life by doing all of the odd jobs and chores at home while spending time with your loved ones and enjoying a quality of life.
Do not underestimate the benefit of a true work-life balance. Apply the same principals at home as you would do to be successful at work and never take anything for granted.
Over the years I have noticed an increase in people who want to stress their proficiency in multi-tasking. It has seem to become the buzz phrase for efficiency but let me make my thoughts clear, there is no such thing as multi-tasking.
What do I mean by this?
Our minds and bodies are only built to do one thing at a time and therefore the habit and proficiency that we should all be endorsing for effectiveness, is the ability to master single-tasking!
You may have multiple tasks that need to be completed but the fact remains, you can only do one at a time. Therefore, prioritizing and scheduling is a key factor in completing these multiple tasks in the time frame required.
I have been intrigued by the word Alibi for some time. For most of us we probably think of this in terms of being used in relation to crime. A reason for why someone could not be guilty of committing a crime.
The definition seems to confirm this: A claim or piece of evidence that one was elsewhere when and act, typically a criminal one, is alleged to have taken place.
The origin of the word alibi comes from Latin: in another place; elsewhere. As I think about this origin I can see how an alibi could also be an excuse for not seeing through a task or an idea. A way of hiding behind something else and shifting the blame for not performing at the highest level.
Napoleon Hill said that "success required no explanations and failure permits no alibis".
In other words, do not make excuses when things go wrong. Failure is a learning moment, identify what went wrong and correct it. Do not hide from the cause, attack it head on and find success.

By definition our limits are points or levels beyond which something does not or may not extend or pass. These limits are set by our own mind. Yes, we control these limits so therefore we have the power to increase or decrease them at will.
In Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill writes: "There are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge". He goes on the add, "both poverty and riches are the offspring of thought".
These are powerful words and ones that we should embrace so that we can become the best version of ourselves. My virtual mentor, Walt Disney, is a great example of someone that pushed boundaries, in fact he didn't believe that there were boundaries - to achieve things that other people thought were crazy and impossible.
